Founded and operated by Mone Weisberger, the shop at 6318 Rigsby Road evaluates every piece based on how cloth actually behaves under tension and movement. Weisberger grew up in Laos learning traditional hand-weaving techniques with silk and cotton alongside her family, developing an innate understanding of grain lines, weave density, and thread strength before working across commercial shops in the Richmond region. That foundational knowledge translates directly into upfront consultations where clients receive direct answers about what can and cannot be achieved with off-the-rack clothing.

Everyday garments and formal pieces undergo the same critical examination at the intake counter. Rather than promising unrealistic transformations on clothing built with minimal seam allowances, Weisberger examines the internal allowances, chest canvassing, lining integrity, and stress points. Services span trouser shortening and tapering, taking in jacket side seams, shortening jacket sleeves through the cuff or shoulder head, and reshaping multi-layered evening gowns. When a modification risks pulling the fabric off-grain or distorting the balance of a lapel, clients are advised against the alteration or presented with alternative structural adjustments that preserve the silhouette.

Restyling and repair work also occupy a significant portion of the workload. RVA Tailors regularly repairs failed zippers, restitches torn linings, and resets waistbands on business trousers, denim, and cherished dresses that have fallen out of rotation. By evaluating whether an older garment requires simple hardware replacement or a comprehensive rebuild, the shop provides clear cost estimates before needles or shears touch the fabric. The workshop operates Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, accepting walk-ins for basic adjustments while accommodating appointments for complex formal fittings. Clients preparing for an initial fitting should bring the exact shoes, belts, and foundational undergarments intended for wear with the finished garment, as altering a hemline or bodice without final footwear and underpinnings will lead to inaccurate measurements and uneven drapes.
