About
Velvet operates in Springdale as a specialized garment reconstruction and bridal alteration studio founded by designer Victoria Ann Gibbs Salazar. While the workshop centers its craftsmanship on complex bridal gown fittings, the team applies precise garment construction standards across suiting, formal wear, and casual apparel. Rather than treating tailoring as a quick series of outer pin-and-tuck adjustments, the workshop approaches every piece through structural evaluation, matching original manufacturer stitch patterns and reinforcing internal seams to honor the integrity of the original design.
Garments brought into the studio pass through a multi-stage workflow divided among technical construction specialists. Individual team members focus on distinct technical disciplines, separating bodice restructuring and internal boning from skirt leveling, multi-point bustle design, and intricate hand-sewn beadwork. Common technical projects range from standard size adjustments to extensive redesigns, such as fabricating custom lace sleeves from skirt offcuts, inserting modesty panels, or altering vintage heirloom dresses. Each completed garment receives a final review by Gibbs Salazar to inspect seam tension, lining placement, and structural balance before the client steps into the studio for pickup.
In addition to bridal gowns, Velvet handles tailoring for structured menswear, evening gowns, and everyday wardrobe pieces. Tailoring for suits and tuxedos includes shoulder adjustments, sleeve alterations through the crown, chest canvassing realignment, and clean trouser tapers. The studio also partners with local Northwest Arkansas boutiques to provide third-party alterations and repairs on new merchandise. Grounded in circular and slow-fashion principles, the workshop emphasizes durable construction methods and clean finishing, ensuring garments withstand years of use rather than temporary fixes.
The Springdale studio operates strictly by appointment between Tuesday and Saturday, and walk-in requests are not accommodated. Bridal alterations generally require an eight-week working timeline and an average of three to six sequential fitting sessions to achieve a proper fit. For non-bridal alterations, clients may bring up to five garments per appointment. When attending an initial fitting, clients must bring the exact shoes and undergarments planned for the garment, as heel height dictates skirt leveling and foundation garments alter bodice proportions.
